If my check engine light is on but my car is running fine, do I need to have it looked at?
The Check Engine Light Doesn't always mean that immediate repairs are needed. Yes, when your check engine light turns on, it is the vehicles way of telling you that there has been a malfunction in one of its systems. But, that does not mean that you need immediate repairs. We will perform a series of test and determine if you require service.
How often should I change my oil if I use synthetic oil?
We answer that question with a question. Are you using a synthetic oil to make your engine last longer, or is it so that you don’t have to change it as often? If It's an older vehicle we will stick to a 3,000 mi regimin. If it's newer , we will stick to the 5,000 mi recommendation that most of the manufacturers now use. We Generally stick to manufacturers recommendations as they should know the product they built better than anyone. Our opinion is based on helping the customer to make their vehicle last as long as possible. Once again that is just an opinion. You can service your engine as often as you choose.
Is it really necessary to replace my timing belt every 90,000 miles, my owner's manual says 105,000.
Any profession repair facility will tell you that we have had vehicles come in with 80,000 miles on them with broken timing belts. We have also had them come in with 100, miles and they are not broken. There are 50% of car manufactures that build a interference engine. This means that when your timing belt breaks or skips, the piston will contact the valve and internally damage the engine costing you more. So with this information in mind, we as the repair facilities recommend you not to go past the 90,000 mile service.
Do I really need to change the oil in my automatic transmission?
YES!!! The automatic transmission is a complex hydraulic pump. The oil in the transmission gets hot and it breaks down just like your engine does. It is not necessary to change it as often as your engine. Our recommendation is once a year or every 20,000 miles. If it is a towing vehicle we recommend every 15,000 miles. Most automatic transmissions have an oil filter in them that is replaceable. It is important to replace the filter when servicing your automatic transmission. Transmissions fail more often than engines because of lack of service.
